On 21 February, International Mother Language Day will celebrate the linkages between the mother tongue and multilingualism.

On this occasion, UNESCO has published a new teacher training strategy on bilingual education in French-speaking West Africa to encourage the use of both the mother tongue and French in the classroom.

UNESCO observes International Mother Language Day annually to preserve linguistic diversity and promote multilingual education.
